About Us
At House of Chances Rescue, our name is our mission - we provide a chance to those who need it the most. The high medical needs animals, the aggressive who need to be socialised, the injured and the forgotten. We are there for them and back them 110%. The majority of the animals we save come from pounds just before they are euthanized due to overcrowding. In short we save the lives of those who others have turned away from.
Our team is made up of a small group of dedicated volunteers and animal lovers who go above and beyond for every life in our care. All of our animals are with dedicated foster carers who open both their homes and their hearts to cats and other animals in need.
Our 'Not Feral, Just Scared' Approach
We pride ourselves on taking cats that have been labelled “problematic”, “highly aggressive” or “feral”. These cats are simply terrified and need to be shown empathy and compassion. We strive to educate the community, pound workers and others that these cats all too often become the most affectionate once they know they are safe. They hate hard and love even harder.
-
We do not overload our foster carers. Each carer has 1-2 foster cats with them (unless there is a mum and kittens). This ensures everyone in care gets the support they need and foster carers aren’t overwhelmed or taking on more than they can handle.
-
We have a strict process when adopting out our animals. We know them, we love them and we are committed to finding them the perfect home. Finding a home for a homeless animal is easy, finding the right home for each individual animal takes time. This ensures each soul is set up for success, limits returns and ensures committed forever homes. No cat deserves to be let down and homeless twice.
-
All of our animals are in loving, safe and appropriate foster homes where they can fully decompress, thrive and feel the same love a home provides. This limits the stress, spread of disease, behavioural problems and overall health of our animals. It also means we get to know them incredibly well and paints a picture of what their forever home needs to be like.
-
We never give up. We advocate for every cat and take our 'no-kill' status seriously. Every animal we commit to, we fully commit to.
-
We do not euthanise aggressive cats, those with behavioural issues or FIV+ cats. We meet them with empathy, support them, rehabilitate them and find them beautiful homes, no matter how long it takes, no matter the cost.
-
Every cat over 6 months of age is tested for FIV and FeLV to ensure disease control and transparency before an adoption.
-
Our finances are accessible for every member of the public. Every single cent goes directly to saving lives.
