Adopting
Our rescue animals are some of the most beautiful, loving and grateful little beings - and they are looking for a forever home! Could it be with you?
All animals come health checked, microchipped, desexed, parasite treated and are up to date with vaccinations. Of course this does not guarantee they do not have an underlying medical condition, however we are transparent with all health history and known illnesses.
Please understand we are a small entirely volunteer-run organisation. We have full time jobs, children and other commitments, so we appreciate your patience while we review your adoption application. Running an animal rescue is not for the faint hearted so please be kind.
When you adopt from us we will support you through the entire adoption process, including after you take your new pet home. We will answer any questions you have, and offer advice and guidance with any struggles you may face.
Adopting from House of Chances not only saves your new family member, but importantly it frees up space with the foster carer so we can save the life of another animal in desperate need. Supporting rescues create a beautiful ripple effect that saves lives.
All our animals available for adoption are listed below. If you would like to apply to adopt someone, please submit an adoption application by clicking the relevant button below.
Who Do We Adopt To?
We do not adopt out to everyone who applies for one of our animals. We pride ourselves on ensuring we find the ideal home for every animal in our care. Every animal is unique, therefore their needs are also unique. Having all of our animals in foster homes means we can ensure we adopt them to a home that suits them. This limits returns, sets animals and their new owners up to succeed, and also fulfils our promise to ensure our adoptees have a long, healthy, safe and happy life where their physical and mental needs are met. We are fully transparent about known medical history, medical needs, behavioural needs and everything you need to know about your future family member.
Animals For Adoption
Adopting Kittens
We only rehome kittens in pairs or to homes with an existing cat. This is because one of the most important ways we can support the behavioural and emotional development of a kitten is to make sure they’ve got a friend. Despite the common belief that cats are solitary animals, they’re actually incredibly social beings who thrive when they have feline friends from an early age.
Ways that kitten friendships are beneficial
-
Learn by observation - Kittens learn by observation and will more quickly pick up skills like using the litter box or grooming if they have another kitten or cat to teach them.
-
Focus play aggression - Having a friend means they can take out their play aggression on one another (instead of on you). They’ll also teach each other good boundaries about biting and scratching.
-
Entertain & enrich - When your kitten has a buddy, they’ll always be entertained, active, and enriched. And a happy cat makes a happy home!
-
Keep out of trouble - One mischievous kitten can be destructive if left alone, but two kittens tend to keep each other occupied and out of trouble.
-
Easier intro to adult cat - If you have an adult cat at home, two new kittens may be easier to introduce into your family than one. While one kitten may nag an older cat, two kittens will keep each other company while the older cat watches from a distance.
-
Comfort in friendship - Having a pal will help your kitten settle into a new home. Just like humans, kittens have an easier time feeling comfortable trying something new if they’ve got a friend to do it with them.
-
Bonded pair adoption - It’s easier to adopt a bonded pair than it is to introduce a new cat later. Adopting a dynamic duo ensures that you’ll have a harmonious home for years to come!
If you’re set on adopting only one kitten, we recommend doing so only if you do have another playful cat in the home already. A kitten can certainly adapt to life with a young cat, and will benefit from the feline mentorship. However, we strongly advise against adopting a solo kitten into a home with no one for them to befriend!
